Animal Shelter, Glastonbury, CT
This proposed municipal animal shelter is a fully self-sustaining, state-of-the-art green building designed for long-term efficiency and animal well-being. Its folded exterior walls and sloped roof create a protective, den-like form that offers comfort and security for pets. The building operates entirely on solar energy, supported by a high-performance envelope and efficient heat pump systems for year-round climate control. Rainwater collected from the roof is reused as greywater, significantly reducing potable water consumption. Together, these strategies create an innovative facility that minimizes environmental impact while setting a new standard for sustainable municipal design.
