Public School 14, Bronx, New York

This addition project introduces a modern wing that reorients the school’s main entrance while creating a vibrant new cafeteria as a central gathering space. A historic school building is thoughtfully paired with a contemporary extension, connected through a light-filled entrance pavilion. Clad in terracotta panels, the new addition is intentionally distinct from the existing brick structure while respecting its presence. The extension is strategically positioned to maximize the outdoor play area and strengthen the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. A one-story cafeteria with an arching roof frames the new main entrance, which is accessed directly from the play yard. The addition provides 19 new classrooms, including spaces for art, music, science, special education, and general instruction. Artwork by Sandy Lichfield enhances the lobby, adding a creative and welcoming identity to the school..​​
