Pavilion, Kyabirwa, Uganda
The Pavilion was designed in response to Ugandan cultural traditions that emphasize family and community support during medical care. Located near the main campus entrance, it provides a comfortable and welcoming space for patients and accompanying family members while maintaining clear visual connections to key medical areas. The layout mirrors patient circulation and integrates seamlessly with surrounding buildings. Passive cooling strategies—including a sloped Mangalore tile roof, ridge ventilation, louvers, and reed-lined ceilings—ensure thermal comfort in the local climate. Built using locally sourced materials, the Pavilion reflects a sustainable approach that supports both environmental responsibility and community involvement.
