Mount Sinai Faculty Offices, New York
Located on the top floor of Mount Sinai’s Faculty Practice Building in Manhattan, the renovated office space now houses some of the hospital’s top surgeons. The original vaulted roof slab, peaking at 26 feet, was previously unused but now enhances the design with volume and openness. Offices were reduced from 150 to 55 square feet, with exposed ceilings and thoughtful design maintaining a sense of spaciousness. Curved felt baffles and small, star-like lights create a calming atmosphere, with lighting programmed to follow circadian rhythms for wellness. Each office includes personalized controls for lighting, temperature, sit-stand desks, and concealed storage to maximize comfort and efficiency. Sliding doors with privacy screens offer flexibility between privacy and collaboration. Materials like fabric, wood textures, fluted panels, and writable surfaces add a tactile, refined experience. Lighting is adjustable to suit various needs—from bright work settings to soft light after surgery or optimal video call conditions.
