Primary School, Ethiopia
Primary School classroom addition is located on the north side of the site, creating a central play area and shared gathering space for students. Covered connectors link buildings and serve as shaded circulation paths and assembly areas. Classrooms and administrative offices open onto a central courtyard, allowing clear supervision of student movement between classrooms and the playground. A secondary inward-facing courtyard between the classroom wing and dining/multifunction building provides a protected gathering space during hot or inclement weather. The playground is positioned on the west side of the site with direct access from the covered walkways, while large shade trees help cool the courtyards. Rainwater is collected from roof gutters, stored underground, and reused as greywater for toilet flushing with the help of solar-powered pumping. The project incorporates solar panels, water-efficient fixtures, and locally sourced construction materials, including brick infill, timber roof trusses, and metal roofing, to support sustainable and community-focused design.
