PS 56X accomodates 400 pupils in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade combines the SHPO-eligible historic Snyder School with a new 54,000-square-foot modern extension. Though physically distinct from the original structure, the addition serves the same educational purpose. A corner entrance pavilion connects the two buildings, opening onto a small plaza gathering space. To the east, the expansion is sited to optimize sunny outdoor play area. Matching the height of the historic school, the addition's windows are designed to echo the large windows of the original building. Communal services and shared community rooms occupy the lower floors, while classrooms are housed above, with art and science facilities located in the corner pavilion. The historic building's original auditorium has been thoughtfully converted into a music suite, complete with restored historic skylights.
