At a time when healthcare systems face critical workforce shortages and many families struggle with the rising cost of higher education, the Bronx STEAM Center offers a transformative new model offering pathways to career growth and economic mobility for underserved communities in the Bronx. The STEAM Center advances the New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) vision of ensuring that every student has a purposeful pathway to college, career, and economic mobility—connecting classroom learning to industry credentials, real-world experience, and high-demand careers. This 38,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility will serve as a career connected learning hub, preparing students for immediate entry into a range of market-aligned, high impact roles. Given its location in the Bronx and the importance of the health care sector, many of the STEAM Center’s pathways and facilities will align to careers in healthcare including: Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assistant, Dental Technician, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). 

 

Designed to mirror real-world industry environments, the building is uniquely designed including features like simulation labs, clinical training spaces, dental labs, emergency response training facilities, and collaborative learning environments that provide students with hands-on experience and industry-recognized certifications before graduation. 

 

Serving many economically disadvantaged students and families, this program creates a direct, debt-free pathway to meaningful careers. Graduates leave with both a high school diploma and professional certifications that allow them to enter the workforce immediately, earning competitive salaries without the burden of student loans or the expense of private vocational programs.
